🌍 Sustainability at TMAC

TMAC believes that travel should be a force for good. As Canada’s leading association for travel media and industry professionals, we are committed to promoting more sustainable and responsible ways to explore our world.

Through the work of our Sustainability Study Group, we’ve introduced guiding motions to help shape how our members travel, host, and connect. These motions have been formally approved by the TMAC Board in 2025 and reflect our ongoing efforts to lead by example.

✅ Our Sustainability Motions

🗓️ January 10, 2025 – Board-Approved Motions

🌱 1. Leading by Example

TMAC recognizes it has a role to play and a responsibility to lead the way in sustainable travel. Not just because our members travel more than the general public, but because we are in the business of promoting and encouraging travel—and can influence how people travel.

♻️ 2. Sustainable Conferences & Events

TMAC has approved guidelines to ensure that all national conferences and chapter meetings aim to be low-impact, zero-waste, plastic-free, and as sustainable as possible.

🗓️ April 16, 2025 – Board-Approved Motion

✈️ 3. Sustainable FAM Guidelines

TMAC encourages members to evaluate the carbon footprint of FAM trips before organizing or committing to them. When possible, members should work with host partners to minimize emissions or purchase vetted carbon offsets through programs such as:

  • CHOOSE – used by Air Canada to support BC’s Great Bear Rainforest
  • Tomorrow’s Air – travel industry-led initiative for direct air capture

🔗 What’s Next?

This is just the beginning! TMAC remains committed to exploring further ways we can reduce our impact, champion responsible travel, and support our members in doing the same. We are working toward building out additional sustainability resources for our members and partners in the future and stay tuned for future guidelines, toolkits, and learning sessions.
